manual lymphatic drainage

manual lymphatic drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a relaxing, non-invasive treatment for the accumulation of fluid under the skin (swelling). It can be performed on any part of the body but is most commonly performed on the arms, legs, abdomen and face. It aims to push lymph fluid back towards the heart using a series of gentle and rhythmic manual techniques.

Along with being beneficial for overall wellness, MLD is used primarily to treat lymphedema, a type of chronic swelling caused by damage to the lymphatic system. In cases of lymphedema, the treatment is combined with compression therapy, exercise, and self-care techniques.

MLD is also effective in treating swelling associated with acute injuries and plastic surgery procedures such as liposuction or facelift. It is a safe and enjoyable treatment for most people, however it is important to keep your therapist up to date on your health history to ensure lymphatic drainage is right for you.
